How can your eyes be wide open with the brain processing what is before you in the physical world, yet there is a different stream of input catching your attention. You may call this the wandering mind. Most of the time when attention wanders like this, the thoughts are taking you away from the present moment. You have become caught up in the maelstrom of patterns identified as “I”. And why does this matter? For the little i is part of a patternless sea of consciousness through which all patterns interact and communicate. Attention is like a light beam. Where you shine it becomes your experience. You can be present with what is before you, what is in your mind’s pattern, or what higher helpers and loved ones across the veil are trying to impress upon awareness. With practice and awareness, you will wisely choose which stream brings you freedom and peace.
